Word of the Day: “Polite”

Some of our PHC students began their day with some calming yoga whilst the others continued their progress in the gym.

In the MH class, they were feeling relaxed as they learn the idiom ‘cool as a cucumber’. They also discussed their hopes for their time at CAE. These included making more international friends, expanding their knowledge of the English vocabulary and of course winning the Harry Potter House Cup!

In the OBH class, students spoke about the ideal qualities in a sibling, friend and a parent and discussed how we can resolve real life problems.

The PHC students used the final scene in Jane Austen’s Sense and Sensibility to create funny role-plays about a misunderstood text message.

During their Academic Elective classes, the media content creators were hard at work. The video group filmed all their footage for a 2 minute video on their chosen topic. Meanwhile, the article writing group patrolled the school searching for students and staff members to interview about their topic matter. 

The academic writing group looked at vocabulary for talking about social problems and used an example to discuss how a good paragraph is constructed.

This afternoon, our students ventured out on their first excursion of the course. Luckily, our school is situated in the beautiful Georgian town of Stamford, so we do not have far to go for a fantastic trip.

On our walk into town we stopped off at The Meadows, a lovely wide-open green space, to explain our activities for the afternoon.

In their Harry Potter Houses, our students were tasked with a ‘Charity Shop Challenge’. Charity shops, which sell items to make money for charity, are very popular in England. Not only do they support good causes, but they are a treasure trove for clothes, toys and other items at a bargain price! Each team were given £10 to find items of clothing for a Charity Shop Fashion Show in the evening. With a theme to choose and two outfits to create, they had their work cut out!

This challenge was a fantastic opportunity for our students to show politeness when purchasing their items from the friendly charity shop volunteers.

Having made their purchases, the students were now given some free time to explore the gorgeous town.

With their shopping complete, we headed for home.

After dinner, it was time to complete preparations for the Fashion Show. Models put on their outfits whilst the other members of each team prepared music and commentary to accompany their models as they strutted down the catwalk.

The time had come for the main event. With the judges ready and the crowd expectant, the models entered and strode confidently down the catwalk.

Accompanying the stunning outfits, two commentators from each team provided detailed explanations of their teams’ designs. The themes on show included ‘The Beach’ and ‘Old Money’, and each House team received brilliant scores and praise from our judges.

However, only one team could be victorious. Due to a combination of their creative outfits, made almost entirely of items bought from the charity shops, and their fantastic commentary and story telling, it was Ravenclaw who were crowned our CAE Charity Shop Fashion Show Champions for 2026!

Each House team put on a show, wowing the judges and the audience with their creativity and engaging commentary.

Another fantastic day at CAE Stamford School came to a close, but fortunately the next is just a sleep away!
